Gee Bees Media

An exciting opportunity exists to take part in a seven-week program to learn how to dance to your favourite bands at this year’s inaugural Rock the Clock Festival in Camperdown from October 20-22.

Emma-Bee of Melbourne dance studio Honky Tonk HQ will be in Camperdown every Sunday from September 3 to teach as many community members as possible to enjoy rock and roll dance.

She (Margaret Brownlie) has been teaching people to dance to southern roots music off and on for decades and specialises in making partner dance easy and fun, and in building and fostering community support for live music.

Emma-Bee teaches various types of two stepping, rock and roll, country waltz, Zydeco and Cajun dance and has performed and taught at many of Australia’s folk festivals. In a previous life, Emma Bee performed with bluegrass and old timey bands, as a flatfoot/ clog dancer.

Seven Weeks to Rock

Get ready for Rock the Clock with beginners’ two-step and rock and roll.

This course will start with an intensive 3 or 4 hour workshop on the basic rhythm, footwork, moves and leading/following tips. Then, over the next six lessons, you will learn enough moves to enable you to dance to your favourite honky tonk, western swing and rock and roll bands.

No experience is needed, although dancers from other genres will find the new steps and rhythms will extend their repertoire.

Partners are not necessary, although encouraged.

Footwear: leather soled or smooth, hard soled (not grippy rubber) shoes or boots.

Men, women and children are all welcome to take part in the Camperdown lessons.

The entire seven-week program will costs just $40 per person. Class sizes are limited, so please register and pay early to secure your place.

Registrations and payments can be made online here or in person at Gee Bees Media, 188 Manifold Street, Camperdown.

Children can attend lessons for free, however they MUST be accompanied by an adult.

Please email or call Simon Buccheri on 0412 943 799 for more information.

The seven consecutive Sunday lessons will take place on;

  • September 3 at 2pm
  • September 10 at 2pm
  • September 17 at 2pm
  • September 24 at 2pm
  • October 1 at 2pm
  • October 8 at 2pm
